About

Dave Matthews is a proficient design engineer with over 10 years’ experience working in both digital and analogue design and development environments.

He has an excellent understanding of optical, system, FPGA and board level design, with domain experience in high reliability and safety critical sectors, including the space, defence, aerospace, renewables, offshore oil and gas industries.

Some of his recent work includes:

  • Leading the digital design on a civil aerospace avionics cockpit display project with responsibility for the development of a graphics display FPGA to safety level DO254 DAL A.
  • Designing an automated test platform for a UK defence project with responsibility for the FPGA Ethernet code development using a Xilinx 7 Series development board.
  • Design and prototype production for a satellite-based tracking system – for valuable unmanned offshore assets – that would provide tracking visibility over a simple web or smartphone/tablet interface as well as a conventional video wall control centre.
  • Producing a technical proposal and system design for an application to the EU research council for a grant to carry out research and development into a novel method of subsea acoustic positioning.

In addition, current independent projects are focused on digital design and implementation of aircraft communication buses (ARINC 429, Mil 1553, AFDX, 1394b), and subsea sensor and acoustic communications.
